At age 62, Nollywood actor Amaechi Muonagor passes on

Nigeria’s iconic Nollywood actor, Amaechi Muonagor, died today at the age of 62 after battling with kidney illness for a long time.

The sad news was announced today Sunday March 24, 2024, by a social commentator, Morris Monye, via his X handle, on Sunday.

Muonagor has been undergoing dialysis for sometime and had severally uploaded videos announcing his debilitating condition seeking for help.

The actor, through a recent video, had appealed to the Nigerian public to come to his aid to enable him carter for the bills of a kidney transplant he planned to undergo.

Up until the time of the announcement of his demise, it is unclear if the actor was able to gather the funds required for the operation.

The actor’s condition did not attract nationalwide attention like that of Jonh Okafor, aka Ibu – who was able to have a lot of people come to his aid.

As at the time Ibu’s condition was receiving nationwide attention, Muonagor situation, though, broadcasted , was dominated by the former’s publicity. Sadly, the industry lost John Okafor, now followed by Amaechi Muonagor.

Monye, the sharer of the actor’s demise said he was “Deeply heartbroken by the news of Amaechi Muonagor’s passing.

“He was a talented Nollywood actor whose presence on our screens was truly masterful.

“We watched with concern as he battled health issues, offering whatever support we could to help him seek treatment in India.

“This tragic loss highlights the need for better healthcare in our country.”

Amaechi Muonagor is a native of Idemili, Anambra State. The actor was born in August 20, 1962.

He was an actor and producer and was nominated for AMVCA 2017 Best Actor in a comedy.

He was a staff of News Agency of Nigeria, where he worked in 1989, after his youth service. He found his place in the nascent Nigeria Nollywood industry – pursued a career in acting where he excelled. His first movie was Akunatakasi in Taboo 1.
